|Carpeting Mold Inspection
Mold in carpeting, padding,
and area rugs is a major health problem caused by the following factors: (1)
moisture from the ground wicks up through concrete slab floors to wet the
carpet padding and carpeting, and thus drive big mold growth in those two
floor coverings; (2) high room humidity (above 70% some or all of the time)
drives mold growth;
(3) organic dust and dirt, human and pet skin flakes, and human and pet hair
drop onto and into the carpeting providing extra mold food to facilitate
carpeting/padding mold growth; and (4) airborne mold spores are continually
landing and being deposited into the carpet surface.
Carpeting mold inspection steps include: (1) use a moisture meter to scan
the floor to determine if there is a wet floor beneath the
carpeting/padding; (2) mold growth samples can be collected from the
carpeting using the Zefon carpeting sampler and air pump illustrated below.
